Overhead arrangement to transmit electrical energy to trains, trams, trolley busses are variously
    known as............

  • Overhead catenary system (OCS)
  • Over head line (OHE)
  • Over head line equipment (OLE/ OHLE)
  • Over head wiring (OHW)
  • Over head line (OHL)
  • Trolley wire

Different Systems for Railway Electrification:-

1.      DC Traction (1500V / 3000V)
2.      3rd Rail (750V DC)
3.      1x25kV System
4.      1x25kV System with BT/RC
5.      2x25kV System (with Auto transformer)

1x25kV System:-

·        Inductive interference
·        Conductive interference
·        Stray currents
·        Voltage drop issues

1x25kV System with BT/RC:-

·        Negligible Inductive interference
·        Less Conductive interference
·        Increases line impedance
·        Interruptions in Catenary
·        System with BT but no RC

2x25kV System (with Auto transformer):-

·        Addresses voltage drop problems
·        Tap changing auto transformers
·        Has the advantages of the simple and BT/RC systems
o   No breaks in catenary
o   Reduces interference issues
